Tiger Woods’ ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, finally opened up about her dramatic breakup with him at her recent graduation from college where she earned a degree in psychology. Nordegren was speaking at a May 10 graduation ceremony where she managed to speak openly about the couple’s divorce and even joked about it. Although Nordegren did not try and downplay how painful it was for her to learn about Tiger Wood’s secret life as a serial cheater, she says that her and Tiger have grown beyond that stage and have managed to work out an amicable arrangement regarding their two children.
The pair officially divorced in 2010, and Nordegren received $100 million as part of the settlement. She used some of the money to purchase a new house in southern Florida, which is also fairly close to Wood’s residence. She says that the pair’s relationship now revolves around their children, and she says that Tiger is an excellent father. The couple share joint custody of the kids.
Divorces are as unique as the personalities involved within them. It may often seem impossible to put aside emotions and anger when a spouse has engaged in some form of marital misconduct. However, it is more important to consider the future relationship that spouse will have with their children after the ink dries on the divorce agreement.
That’s why the most important decision in any divorce should always be about what is in the best interests of the children. Adequate housing, reasonable financial support and sound provisions to ensure the children’s health should be at the top of the list of priories rather than making the spouse suffer to assuage the pain of betrayal.
