Latino singer Mark Anthony is currently engaged in a legal battle with his ex-wife over a modification in the amount of child support payments he gives to her each month for their two sons. The couple divorced in 2004, but according to new legal documents, his ex-wife alleges that Anthony, should be required to pay an increased amount of child support for their sons, ages 13 and 10, because she has new evidence that he is spending around $305,000 per month.
Currently, Anthony pays his ex $13,000 per month, which she would like to court to amend to $113,000. She is a former Miss Universe and says that she has been forced to live modestly in a southern California suburb, while Anthony leads a life of comparative opulence. The 45-year-old singer says in his defense that he does not want to make life too easy for his two sons, fearing that the added money could steer them into a life of substance abuse.
In Arizona, a parent who does not have primary physical custody of the child is required to pay child support and the amount of those payments are set according to the Arizona Child Support Guidelines. There is not much variance in those amounts under normal situations. However, there are some circumstances that may require some modification. Things like having a child with developmental challenges or other special needs. Perhaps a parent is self-employed or works only seasonally.
There are also times when uncooperative parents make it hard to determine what should be an appropriate amount of child support payments. In cases such as those, it is always a good idea to get an attorney who specializes in the field of family law. They will be able to use their experience and knowledge to assess and evaluate an appropriate amount of support for each unique situation.
