We have previously discussed the recent trend of throwing parties to mark the end of a marriage. Divorce party planning, divorce celebration travel and divorce celebration trinkets have become increasingly in-demand services and goods. If you are going through a divorce, celebrating the end of your marriage may sound appalling, inviting or strange. Whatever your take on this trend, it is important that you think critically before deciding to celebrate your divorce in highly visible ways.
Increasingly, American society is recognizing divorce as a transition from one life choice to another. It is no longer recognized as a cause for shame in the ways it once was. As a result, it is understandable that some individuals are choosing to mark the occasion in a positive and celebratory light. More often than not, these people are honoring the new phase of their lives that is about to begin, rather than rejoicing in the dissolution of a once joyous union.
However, it is important that those who choose to celebrate their divorces think about potential consequences of this action. For example, if you have children, celebrating in a large, visible way may leave them feeling hurt and confused. It may be best to celebrate with a private trip without disclosing your reasons for going.
In addition, other family members and friends may also not understand your motives or choices. Ultimately, how you choose to mark this life change is up to you. Just remember that your display of confidence may harm those around you if it is not done delicately and considerately.
